Wedding Reception Photos

Wedding Reception Photography

Your wedding reception no matter how small or affordable you try to make will be an expensive day. A high proportion of that cost goes towards the wedding venue that you choose and the catering. Because the 2 most expensive things at your wedding are elements of the reception; it is important we capture some amazing wedding reception photos. A wedding reception normally includes smiles and laughter over a drink, speeches and the reactions they incur and potentially some wedding games like His and Hers that are really fun, all of which offer fantastic moments to capture the fun and create original photos.

Traditionally the wedding reception is after the ceremony but before the first dance and the party! The biggest thing is you can’t stress, the planning of your wedding is over so sit back and enjoy the outcome of your plans.

Wedding Reception Details

Wedding venues inherently look beautiful in their “naked” state, however, usually, you will want to personalise the venue to suit you and your wedding theme.

That might be table centrepieces, flowers and decorations around the room or the printed items such as menus, table place settings and table numbers that you have made beautiful for your day.

Often these details are overlooked by other photographers however we make sure to capture the room and its details.

Wedding Reception Guests

So you’ve invited some of your closest friends and family, we will make sure you get images of them at your wedding reception. Along with taking group photos of them with you, I will get photos of them enjoying themselves in a candid and organic way.

I find images that capture a moment of a conversation, with true giggles and smiles far surpass those that are staged.

Kids

Kids at the wedding reception make a good opportunity for some really fun shots, blue tounges from sweets, and a quick play flight at Kristian and Louise’s wedding was a really great moment that I loved capturing! Another fun moment was at Daniela & Ciprian’s wedding where the kids tried pushing each other into a pond!

Reception Speeches

Putting hours into your wedding speech is expected, those 10 minutes often include humorous stories and anecdotes. To remember these moments I make efforts to capture both the speaker, but also the reaction of those listening.

Maybe the bride has a tear in her eye, or the best man is laughing his head off after dropping his mate in it, or a very proud mother of the bride hugs her daughter. At Hannah and James’ wedding, the best man even brought cue boards to tell everyone where to clap and laugh!

It’s really important for me to capture every moment in a storytelling way.

Wedding Reception Games

Quite a new tradition at wedding receptions are wedding games. The link there gives a whole long list of fun things you can do, one of my favourites is his and hers.

Your host asks you a multitude of funny questions about who does something more, who’s always late,  or who is then sexiest (Grooms, I’ll give you a tip here, always choose the bride for that one!)

Anyway, despite what you choose, if you have time to have a game or 2, it will be a really fun time!

wedding cake cutting

Whether you go traditional 3-tier white icing, or something different. The cake-cutting moment is enjoyed by everyone.  Photos of this moment are a prerequisite and they can be really fun moments when brides love to smash a slice of cake into their partner’s face and have a great laugh!

This is my favourite moment of the wedding because it means I can finally eat the 10 slices of cake that I’ve been eyeing up the whole of the wedding reception.
